Virus Prints
November 19th - December 17th 2009
Exhibition Information
Laurent Delaye is proud to present the first silkscreen edition by established British artist Michael Stubbs.
Displayed at this exhibition are eight framed, six-colour silkscreen prints from an edition of 16 sets. Each print, onto 300gsm Somerset Satin White Paper, is signed, dated and numbered. The editions are also available in cloth covered, boxed portfolios.
Stubbs is already well known for his paintings. These are constructed by combining poured, abstract configurations of transparent varnishes and opaque household paints with graphic stencils. The repeated pouring in conjunction with the pop signs, form a physical process of sensual flat-on-flat layering that reveals multiple perspectives and optical depths.
Stubbs has translated his painting technique into silkscreen by creating original graphic artworks onto acetate. These have been transferred onto multiple silkscreens and printed under the direction of the artist, mimicking the multi-layering activity of his studio paintings. 'Virus Prints', the title of the show, continues Stubbs' fascination with contemporary painting's physical connection to material manipulation as an overlapping with the flattened, non-physical space of digital media.
Born in West Sussex in 1961, Michael Stubbs completed his Fine Art PhD at Goldsmiths in 2003, MA Fine Art Goldsmiths, 1990, and his BA(Hons) Fine Art, Bath Academy of Art, 1987.
