Claire Pestaille interprets images not only by finding them in magazines and archives but by rebuilding them in highly sophisticated collages. Her figures become the subject of multiple readings and optical renderings that increase the focus on their presence. She is challenging the gaze on women, and her work, unequivocally feminist, searches for the real image behind the image. In this work, the prism becomes a disclosure of the portrait and the pose, of the statement and the person. This high-quality print is produced by the artist from a handmade collage, and shows in details all the intricacies of cutting and actions that led to bring it to life.
