In Bérénice Mayaux abstract composites, a cloud in a blue sky can seep through and turn itself into grids of immaterial steel beam structures, and tension lines can pull the image towards the intimation of sound. Everything leads to a possible, as long as it can form organic chains in related logics, like cells reproducing from their own dna. With such freedom logic leads to the uncorrelated, like an image that has the capacity to permanently transform itself. A strangely evocative aesthetics of modern California is emerging from them.

Bérénice Mayaux is a painter living in Normandy, France. She creates rich compositions freely moving from spontaneous images to meticulously planned structures. She mixes at will rigorous abstraction, vibrant organic forms, and unexpected figuration. Her range of experimentation is wide, and she is as interested in multidimensional space as in intricate colour grades and light spectrum. Her drawings sensually play with the fluid passage of the brush while her paintings are striking for their extremely complex precision.

As a painter of the new generation, Mayaux loves to intermingle the rich heritage of early abstraction, Surrealism, colour theories and design of the Bauhaus, Constructivism, Dada, while integrating digital imaging and contemporary iconography with a whimsical sense of humour. Her ultimate aim is painting itself, the material and its many possibilities and complexities, its chemical structures, and endless nuances.
